Credit card complaints on the rise in India
An RBI report put the total number of banking complaints at 38,638 in 2006-07 up 22% from 2005-06 which was at 31,732. The banking ombudsman’s scheme now also includes credit card complaints which may have lead to the increase in complaints.

Credit card complaints topped the chart with 7688 complaints which is a huge 20% of the total complaints received. Major credit card complaints fell under the following category.
- Non-issue of credit cards.
- Issue of unsolicited cards.
- Non-despatch of account statements in time.
- Levy of excessive service charges.
- Unauthorised debits.
- Late appropriation of payments made through cheques even though deposited in time/at drop boxes outside bank premises and levy of late fee in such cases.
Excessive late fee and penal charges. - Sanction of loan against credit cards on the basis of offers over telephone without written consent of customer.
- Refusal to cancel credit card.
- Refusal to settle insurance claims.
- Not adhering to settlement terms for settling credit card dues.
- Wrong reporting of status of cardholder’s dues to credit information companies.
- Failure to note caution / instructions in lost cards.
- Freezing of cards without informing the cardholder.
- Harassment by recovery officer.

I want to lodge a complaint against HSBC credit card. I have contacted through phone, email & post but they have tll date not resolved my problem. Whom do I approach
I got a barclays credit card a very fine day but dont use it anyplace/time, i was offered a Priority Circle LE membership full of confusion and misselling,when i complaint about it they said they cant do anything and it could not be canceled and if u want to know more call our call center, its been a 1-1/2month i filed my complaint on call centre and on Mails also with the card division they told me to give an application duly signed and I sent them also that but haven’t received any solution-call from there side, instead i have called them at least 14 times and mail atlest 6-7 times still recieving irritating collection calls and threatning sms for reffering in credit burue ,still waiting for my grievance to be looked upon(I have never use this card), i have not seen such a unprofesional behaviour and Poor service of a credit card of such a repute bank with full of misselling and with no one to look into customer complaints.(I have never use this card)
I have been contacted by Citibank credit card sales team they asked me to buy an Insurance Policy of New India Insurance. I already have health insurance from the same provider and coverage was also good, so I said I am not interested. They said that if I am not claiming anything for entire year then I will get 20000 back. I said how is that possible, as a premium I am just paying around 7700 and I will get 20000 back. I said since I already have policy so I will never claim and can get 20000 back. It does not seems practical. Then he said that your name has been chosen by lottery and that is the reason you are getting this unbelievable offer. I confirmed this many time and he says yes that I will get 20000 back. Now when I am claiming the money after one year they are saying that 20000 will be added to next year policy as bonus. This is a pure case of cheating. They never even send the Insurance policy document and didn’t get my signature and deducted 7700. I am asking them to furnish the voice recorded between myself and their representative but they are not able to provide it. I don’t know based on what they deduct the money. I want to take this matter to highest possible level.
This is Shailesh Jain. I was holding an ABN AMRO Credit Card and its expired long back (valid from 07/05 to 07/07).
Surprisingly today on 05-Mar-09 I have got the call from Mumbai (ph no. 022-69555930).
One of executive girl was on call and she was directly saying to me is that within 2 days we are going to file a case against you because you have not paid the money to the bank.
I got totally surprised and shocked because I have not even activated and not even used the ABN AMRO credit card single time and it was expired already on 07/07 as well. Then how come ABN AMRO is asking for payment otherwise case against me.
I had never got any call from ABN AMRO bank before and suddenly one day they are calling in such manner.
I would request RBI to look over the issue and take some action against ABN AMRO executives so that consumer wouldn’t suffer from such kind of threaten call which are coming from banks.

Even the communication with Nodal Officer Mr. Manoj Naik also proved useless. Mr Manoj Naik assured me for solution and new card but all balls are from the same court. Still no action. It has been more than three months and the issue is still unresolved. I am a General Manager in a Bank. I am a fatal victim of SBI Credit Card.
When I paid an amount of Rs. 6000 by cheque and the cheque is debited to my account, SBI is yet to give credit to my account/statement and charge interest on interest on the paid amount. Tele callers harass over phone for the amount already paid. Statements are never sent. When I went to meet some responsible official, I was not allowed entry. GE Capital Management Sevice is their collection agent. They treat me like rubbish.
Never go near SBI CARD EVEN IN YOUR DREAM.

HDFC Bank Health Plus Credit Card bungled and messed up!
Mediclaim card holders left stranded without insurance cover suddenly!
The following information will help many HDFC Bank account-holders who have been using the bank’s Health Plus Credit Card for many years since its introduction in 2003. The Bank has suddenly announced that they are withdrawing the mediclaim facility offered as part of the above credit card without assigning any reason and in my case, they have done this after deducting the premium and are now surreptitiously trying to refund the same after many months. This has put us in hardship as renewal is not possible as the previous policy has lapsed and fresh enrolment is fraught with issues of age (above 60 disqualifications! When I enrolled, I was 55!), existing diseases (which would now become pre-existing disease), and fresh medical examination. I had a Citi bank credit card. They swiped an insurance(oremiu of INR.1080) on my card without my consent. So I noticed this after one month, so asked them to cancel it. So when they canceled it they only credited 700 back, also charged a late payment of 300 on it. I have complained about this a lot of times, but now they have put me in civil list and are also asking me to pay INR.1000 to settle the issue.
Is it possible to complain anywhere? I’m desperate to teach these cheats a good lesson.

I had taken a credit card from HSBC bank. A ‘lifestyle fee’ (some insurance policy), which I had never applied for, turned up in my credit card statement. I contacted the HSBC customer care regarding the same where they assured me that it will be taken care in the next statement and there would be no such dues against my card.
Even after this, the subsequent statements kept showing the due. On repeated requests to the customer care, each time, I was assured that the problem will be sorted out in the next bill. However, the problem was not sorted out even after months.
After getting fed up of the disappointing inaction of HSBC bank in this matter, I requested customer care to close my card. As usual, they once again assured me that the problem will be solved and I need not close my card. And, as usual, no action was taken.
Finally, I called up the HSBC customer care once again and insisted that my card be closed. It was informed to me that unless the issue gets resolved my application for closing of card will not be accepted. After insisting on a final date for solving this issue, the personnel asked me to contact after 3 working days. When I called after 3 working days, they told me that my complaint as well as my card closing request has been forwarded. I was once again asked to call after 3 working days to check the status of my application. After 3 working days, I checked the status of my application from your customer care and they informed me that the card has been closed and there are no dues against me.
Despite this, I am receiving messages for “outstanding payment against my card” even till date. On contacting the customer care, I am being directed to the ‘unreachable numbers’ of HSBC Debt Management Department. Even my mails addressing the issue were not answered properly.Now they are telling me that it was a part of the same scheme.
I was never intimated about such insurance policy with the documents enclosed with the card.
Now they are making false claims.
I am having all the enclosed documents including the covering letter as well as the terms and conditions.No mention for the policy stated above was in any of the letters received from the bank.
On several accounts, I was assured by the bank personnel that no charges are levied against me.In the subsequent statements they ll reverse it back.
Kindly suggest me what shall i do.I want to know where to complain and how to complain against these fraudsters.

I am a City Bank Credit card holder. I took this card in 2007 and till Jun 2008 i was paying minimum amount to this bank. Now in July 2008 i planned to settle this card, so i called up the executive of city bank to discuss the plan of settlement. At that time the executive told me that if i want to settle the card in one strock then i need to pay Rs 36000 but there is one more plan to settle the credit card in Rs 26000/- to pay the EMI for 12 months with 0% ROI. I agreed to the executive and done the procedure to settle it in 12 EMI’s. They asked me to give 12 cheques. i did the same. For 2 -3 months the EMI’s are cleared from my account but after that they have not deposited the cheques for 4 months. Then i called customer care saying the same prbm, and suddenly they deposited all 5 cheques at a time into my account, resulting into 3 cheques are got bounced, and then the agreement for settlement get canceled.
Now after 8 – 9 months they give me a call saying settle the credit card in Rs 25000/- and in 2 days of time. They are harressing me to do this otherwise they will drop a mail to my seniors and my HR in my office. Now i dont have this much amount to settle the card and i told them that i will settle it but i need some time and i will settle it in 2 strocks. But they are not talking in good manner and harresing me continuously.

I am HDFC customer. I have an account with HDFC as well I am HDFC’s credit card hold since 2008. Recently I faced a problem with them. On Aug 2009’s credit card statement I received on which they have charged for the transaction of Rs.5150.00 on 14.07.09 at M/s Guinness Electronics in my account. I have not done any such transaction and raised the dispute form against the transaction. Also told the HDFC people to block my card. HDFC taken the action, they investigated and sent me a letter stating that it was a wrong transaction and they have charged Rs.125 for the investigation and reversed that amount. Again, Now September 2009, they have debited the same amount saying that the transaction have been processed to my card account and the credit card was physically presented at the time of the transaction.
I am 100% sure that I have not produced my card for such transaction and surprising that how can HDFC say like this. Really I am upsetting and regretting for their unsatisfactory service. I’ve mailed them that I will not pay for the amount which I have not used. HDFC Insisting me to pay this due and their phone banking person told me to go and check with the merchant. Tell me why should I go and investigate this. Even I dont know where that company is. I am suspecting that there was a misuse of my card.
